The minute details of each outfit are outlined; the designers, the colors, even the hair stylists are mentioned. Why? Because clothing makes the man (or woman). Everyone knows that clothing, appearance, and presentation affect how people receive you. For instance, women who wear more masculine clothes to a business interview are more likely to be hired; people who dress conservatively are perceived as more self-controlled and reliable; and people who wear bright colors are seen as being more friendly, attractive, and individualistic.
We all understand that clothing is a material thing, and it has nothing to do with our walk with Christ, but the Bible does describe the ideal outfit for Christians.
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Colossians 3:12-15
This is one outfit that would turn some heads! What situations in your life would be changed by “wearing” these clothes? You see, this is an outfit worthy of headlines. It wouldn’t just change your surroundings, but it would change you. When we strut the red carpet in this creation, everyone will want to know who the designer is. And, just like the Bible says in 1 Peter, be ready to answer when people ask who it is that created that outfit.
Self-Reflection
What outfit have you been wearing?
Who is the designer of that outfit?
How can we strip away “last year’s” look, and put on this new design?
